Challenged myself with the latest Color Hues challenge - #81 Lilac & Mint

Since this is not typically a color combination I'd work with, I did a little google searching for inspiration and found this cute little pillow that also served as inspiration for my card design

And here is my card...

I cut some strips of yummy Concord & 9 cardstock in shades of the color challenge to make the strips and also die cut the flower from the lilac and mint colored cardstocks to layer behind the white die cut flower. The flower and sentiment are adhered to the card panel with foam tape for interest and dimension.

I used The Stamp Market's new Fresh Blooms layering die and stamp on this card.

 Played along with the latest color challenge at The Color Throwdown 

I took a little liberty with the 'sage' color in the challenge... all of the shades of green ink I have were very dull looking.. note to self, buy a new, good 'sage' ink!! ;)

Here is my card....

Kind of a different look for me, but I have to say, I really like it! :) I used some new (to me) products from The Greetery to make this card - lots of stamping and die cutting - also a different technique for me. I really enjoyed the process!

and here is my card...

 I really had some fun with this card! Did some good ol' 'ink smooshing' with distress inks to create the poppies and stem. I intentionally left some white space for interest when I die cut the flowers.

Supply List:

Altenew: cross stitch canvas die; build a flower: poppy stamp and die

Pink Fresh Studio: perfect sentiments stamp and die

Distress Oxide Inks: spiced marmalade, shabby shutters, peeled paint

Color Throwdown #712

Played along with the latest challenge over at The Color Throwdown

 

So, this one definitely took me out of my comfort zone... definitely struggled with this one, but I'm glad that I took the challenge, it is definitely helping me get out of my creative rut!

I started with the panel of blue - I clear embossed the Pink Fresh Studio plaid background stamp on kraft cardstock and then inked over it with faded jeans distress oxide ink and then spritzed some water on the panel for a bit of distressing.

I also used distress oxide ink for the leaves - mustard seed, wild honey, carved pumpkin, ripe persimmon, barn door.

I layered an orange patterned paper panel, cream colored ruler patterned paper panel, and placed the blue panel over it. The sentiment was stamped on patterned paper then die cut with a stitched banner die and adhered to the card front with foam tape. The leaves were adhered with foam tape, and then jute twine was wrapped around the card to finish it off.

 Another awesome sketch challenge is up at Freshly Made Sketches...

I flipped the sketch and also followed the color scheme from the latest Color Throwdown challenge to create my card.

This was a treat to create, I'm always so inspired by the sketches at Freshly Made Sketches and refer to them often when making my cards!

Color Throwdown challenge #711

 Back with another challenge card...

this time I played along with the gorgeous color challenge over on The Color Throwdown blog

Love those vivid sunflowers in the inspiration photo!! Unfortunately I don't have any sunflower stamps, so I used another flower stamp and the vivid yellow to mimic them.

As per usual, I took a rather literal interpretation of the inspiration photo, I enjoy pulling supplies together in the recreation effort.

you've been on my mind

hello there!

Today I'm playing along with the latest Color Throwdown challenge

Initially, these colors stumped me, but then I turned to an Altenew floral stamp set, and the card came together nicely!

I found the gorgeous ombre patterned paper in my stash to be the perfect pink/purple backdrop for the image I chose to stamp in Altenew shades of purple and green.

The paper panels were die cut with The Greetery crimped frame dies. The stamped sentiment and sentiment die are also by The Greetery.

Thankful for this challenge as it took me out of my 'color comfort zone', I never really work with purple, but I'm glad I did!

well, hello

 I fell in love with the colors in the latest Color Throwdown challenge #630

and couldn't wait to play along. Here is my creation...

I used the Altenew/Pinkfresh Celebrate Us stamp/die set to create the main floral image, which I adhered over a blush colored distress ink background panel and burlap texture die cut from gold glitter paper. I love how adding the gold embossing powder to the flower centers gave the flowers some extra interest. Did I already say how much I love this color combination?? ;)

CAS on Friday color challenge #199 - turquoise/teal, orange, white

And here is my take on the challenge

I used the Altenew poppy stamp set, inked the poppies in Altenew peach parfait and Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink. The flowers were die cut and adhered with foam tape over a layered panel of teal patterned paper. I added the die cut Hero Arts smile sentiment and tied some white twine around the card to finish it off.

This was a great challenge for me, as it inspired me to work with colors outside of my comfort zone... I really don't like the color orange, but I absolutely love it here ;)

 Thought I'd take on the latest color challenge over at the Color Throwdown

Normally I take a pretty literal interpretation of a color challenge... this time, not so much! LOL

I still had this ombre stencil laying on my desk after using it on a previous card, and it inspired me for this color challenge. I used distress oxide inks... worn lipstick, picked raspberry, candied apple... to create the light pink to red ombre striped background.

I used the Altenew/Pink Fresh Celebrate Us stamp/die set to create the floral image - outline stamped in black, flower stamped in coral berry and ruby red, with morning frost leaves.

I added the 'thank you' sentiment (from SSS Greetings Mix 2) in bold black ink on a MFT stitched wonky circle die cut, and added a few clear sequins for sparkle ;)

This was a fun one to create, grateful for the color inspiration!!

Another card from my crafty weekend after an extremely loonnnnggg creative hiatus LOL...

Inspired by the latest Color Throwdown challenge #627

and here she is...

A very simple card, but I tend to overthink things, and chose to keep it simple to allow the colors to be the focus rather than a detailed card design. Although hard to tell in the photo, the thin fiber/yarn tied around the blue heart is a pretty pale pink, which I chose as a nod to the texture of the pink blanket in the inspiration photo. 

Felt good to get creative again, grateful for the challenge!!

I also made this card to coincide with one of Scrapbook & Cards Today World Card Making Day challenges...

To make this card I found a maple leaf online and created a pattern from it... using various solid patterned papers to paper piece the leaf. Once pieced, I outlined the leaf with a black Sharpie to create definition. Definitely a labor of love, but I love how it turned out!!

inspired by challenge

I feel that I reallyy stepped outside of my comfort zone with this challenge, as I am not always very adventurous with stamping and color.... but was eager to take on the challenge!

This is what I came up with...

I was inspired by the colors as well as the sketch, flipped. This was a great challenge for me to practice my stamping, which is definitely not my forte LOL, and the clean and simple style, also not my strong suit! I enjoyed digging through my inks looking for the hues which could work for the color challenge.

Grateful for the inspiration this challenge provided!!

 hello & happy Monday!!

today I have a challenge card based on Color Throwdown #611

In addition to the challenge colors themselves, I was really inspired by the photo itself....

The main elements of my card were greatly influenced by specifics in the inspiration photo: 

-the beautiful varying shades of green inspired the green stripes anchoring the sentiment panel

-all of the lines in the latticework and the grey shelving inspired the patterned paper I chose for the die cut sentiment

The color challenge was completed with the addition of the white embossed sentiment on kraft paper.

when life gives you lemons

 I just LOVE this color combination from the latest Color Throwdown challenge: ctd590

When I saw the inspiration photo, I was immediately drawn to the bright yellow and the bold contrasting blue and white.

It was fun adding the bits of tan/kraft in there too.  I even added a splash of clear sequins as a nod to the glass jar.

Another great color challenge courtesy of the Color Throwdown CTD588

Confession time...
Orange is my least favorite color in the world.... LOL!!!!
So when I first saw this photo, and ALL of the orange, I almost passed on the challenge ;)
But, then I decided to put on my big girls pants and face the 'orange' head on, and you know what???? I am SOOO glad that I did!! I really had fun with this color challenge in the end!!
Of course orange is not the prominent color in my card, but I wasn't as afraid to use it as I thought I would be.. LOL!!

What really helped this card come together was finding the patterned paper that had flower clusters that contained all four colors. The rest of the card was based around those flowers.
The lines in the leaves inspired using the black ribbon as a vivid contrast.
Fantastic challenge that really took me out of my comfort zone, and I love every minute of the challenge!!

Played along with the latest color challenge at Color Throwdown #587 (pink, grey, green, kraft)

and Freshly Made Sketches #429

Although it took me multiple attempts to get a card 'just right' (several rejects on my desk), it was a really fun process.

Found some patterned papers that went with the color challenge.

Heat embossed some flowers on dark grey patterned paper. Die cut some leaves. Stamped the sentiment on kraft paper, and voila, challenge card complete!

I really enjoyed stepping outside of the my comfort zone to create this one!!!
